New Palestine High School

The New Palestine girls golf team opened its season Saturday with a third-place finish at the Greensburg Invitational. The Dragons shot 373, placing third to champion Center Grove (318) and runner-up Franklin County (362). The Dragons finished ahead of fourth-place Richmond (376) and fifth-place Franklin Central (388) at the 16-team tournament. Lauren Appleby shot a career-best 86 to lead the Dragons. Kate Stanfield added a 92, Zoe Nelson a 96 and Hanna Beller 99. Lily Kirchner's 103 was the Dragons' fifth score. The Dragons are back in action Monday at Greenwood.
