The New Palestine volleyball team rallied multiple times Thursday to win a five-set thriller over Mt. Vernon 23-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-13. The Dragons trailed 13-11 in the fifth set - a set in which they had never led - when Hayden Ramsey put a ball away at the net, then went back to the serving line and finished off the match. At 13-13, Elena Cook sent a kill down the line to give the Dragons their first lead of the set. On the next point, the Marauders could not handle Natalie Sevier's attack, finishing the match. The Dragons trailed 8-1 early in the first set, but rallied to tie at 10-10 on Sevier and Kennedy Armstrong's serves, but couldn't take the lead. A big MV run in the second set allowed the Marauders to take a 2-0 lead, but the Dragons seized control in the third - building a 21-13 lead and never trailing in the set. They pulled away at the end of the fourth set. Adelynn Crispin was one of three Dragons with double-doubles, as she had a career-high 18 kills to go along with 19 digs. Sevier had 14 kills and 23 digs. Ramsey had 14 kills, six digs and three aces. Cook tallied nine kills and five digs. Caylee Brown had eight kills. Sam Gooding tallied 53 assists and 10 digs. Azure Flagle led the defense with 30 kills. "Just so proud of these girls for persevering," Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. "They never got down even when we were losing. So happy for the seniors to get their final win on this court." The Dragons finish the regular season with a 26-4 record. They open sectional play Oct. 16 at Shelbyville against Beech Grove.
