Golf finishes fourth in regional, Deering advances to state

The New Palestine girls golf team narrowly missed a third straight State Finals trip, finishing fourth in Saturday's Lapel regional, but junior Lauren Deering earned an individual spot in next week's finals. The Dragons shot 338 to finish fourth in the 15-team field. Noblesville (296), Hamilton Southeastern (304) and Lapel (325) finished in the top three spots. Deering shot a three-over par 75, tying for the third individual spot to advance. She earned her trip to state on the fourth playoff hole. Katie Kelley shot 81, Matti Tiede-White 90 and Tessa Mohr 92. Carlee Poorbaugh's 95 was the fifth score. The State Finals will be Oct. 3-4 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
