Boys tennis falls in tight match

The New Palestine boys tennis team pushed three matches to three sets Wednesday, but fell 5-0 to Mt. Vernon at home, with all three third sets decided by a break. At No. 2 singles, Tyler Walter fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Brock Hehmann dropped a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 decision, while the No. 2 doubles team of Jackson Clark/Davis Harrison fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. At No. 1 singles, Carson Rush dropped a tight 6-3, 7-6(5) match. At No. 2 singles, Luke Bartusek/Gavin Berry fell 6-4, 6-0. The Dragons finish the regular season 10-8 and 4-3 in HHC play. They open sectional play Oct. 1 at Mt. Vernon against an opponent to be decided during Sunday's sectional draw. The Dragons JV won 3-2. Sean Pearson, J.P. Peterson/Jacob Kleine and James Perry/Brady Groce won.
