The New Palestine girls golf team had to wait a day, but it was worth it, as the Dragons clinched their fourth consecutive sectional championship Tuesday at The Links. The Dragons shot 334 to beat Mt. Vernon (355) by 21 strokes. Greenfield-Central (411) finished third out of eight full teams. All three advance to Saturday's regional at Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson. The Dragons' strength at the top shone, as they had two of the three golfers who broke 80 in the field. But the depth carried them to the title, as the Dragons had three of the top four scores, had all five golfers in the Top 10, and were the only team to have all five golfers under 100. Lauren Deering shot a one-over par 73 to finish second overall. She shot a two-under 34 on the back nine. Katie Kelley shot 79 to finish third overall. Along with sectional champ Ressie Lammon of Mt. Vernon - who shot 69 - they were the only three golfers out of 38 to break 80. Matti Tiede-White added an 89, which tied for fourth overall. Tessa Mohr added a 93, finishing sixth overall. Carlee Poorbaugh's 98 was the Dragons' fifth score. She finished ninth overall. The sectional title was the Dragons' ninth overall - all coming in the last 12 seasons.
