Baseball falls in seventh

The New Palestine baseball team rallied twice Thursday against Greenwood, but fell to the host Woodmen 3-2 on a walk-off single in the seventh. It was the Dragons' second 3-2 defeat in as many days. The Dragons' record moved to 18-9 on the season ahead of Monday's regular season finale at Indian Creek. The Dragons left the bases loaded in the first and then surrendered the first run in the bottom of the frame on two singles. The Dragons tied the game in the third when Nic Deering led off with a double and scored on Jacob Morris' sacrifice fly. The Dragons threatened again, as Blaine Nunnally doubled, but was stranded on second. Greenwood re-took the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the third on two singles and a walk. The Dragons immediately responded in the fourth inning. With one out, Michael Thorpe and Adam Rickey walked. Deering then singled home a run to tie the game. The Dragons again loaded the bases with one out, but two groundouts ended the threat. Greenwood responded with the winning run on two hits in the seventh. Deering led the Dragons, going 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Nunnally was 2-for-3. Wes Stiller was 1-for-3 and Thorpe 1-for-2. The Dragons were outhit 10-8.
