Girls track places third in sectional, advances 13

The New Palestine girls track and field team placed third in Tuesday's Warren Central sectional, advancing 13 different performances to next week's regional. Rylee Hurst (400), Quin Lumbley (shot put) and Sydney Miller (discus) all won individual sectional titles, leading the Dragons to 103.67 points. They finished behind Franklin Central (148) and Warren Central (137). The Dragons finished ahead of fourth-place Roncalli (83.3), fifth-place Greenfield-Central (80) and six other teams. Hurst claimed the sectional title in the 400, finishing with a time of 59.76. She has swept every title available to her this season, also winning the county and HHC titles. Miller and Lumbley have done the same in their events. Lumbley won the shot put with a distance of 40-4, with Miller finishing second (38-2.5). In discus, Miller won with a throw of 122 feet. The top three placers advance to next week's Franklin regional, as well as others advancing on time. Abby Journay advances to regional in three individual events and four overall. She finished fifth in the 200 (27.40), third in the 400 (1:00.45) and tied for second in the high jump with Kayla Rieman (4-10). In addition to the 400, Hurst also earned a regional spot in the 100, where she finished fifth with a time of 12.79. Courtney Study advances to regional with a third-place finish in the 1600 (5:43.33). Rebecca Johnson advances on height in pole vault, clearing 9-0. The Dragons' 4x400 relay of Hurst, Alexis Baynes, Olivia Frank and Journay finished second (4:11.14). The 4x800 relay of Amelia Stone, Baynes, Cami Massari and Study finished fourth (10:38.91) and advanced on time.
