The New Palestine baseball team blanked Scecina 6-0 Monday on the Dragons' Senior Night. The victory extended the Dragons' winning streak to four games and improved their record to 17-7. Senior Brayden Marrow had a big day, going 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and four stolen bases. He helped lead a six-hit attack. Senior Chase Ankney pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out 11 and scattering five Crusaders hits. He had to pitch out of a two-on jam in the first, but cruised after that. Scecina never had more than one baserunner in any inning after. Ankney struck out the last three batters in the seventh to nail down the game. The Dragons took the lead in the second when Jacob Morris was hit by a pitch and scored on Brock Whitaker's single to left. In the fourth, Nolan Cox and Whitaker drew back-to-back one-out walks. With two outs, Marrow reached on an infield hit, plating a run. Whitaker then stole home on the front end of a double-steal and Marrow scored on an errant pickoff throw to give the Dragons a 4-0 lead. The Dragons added insurance runs in the sixth. With one out, Marrow walked and Tyler Dean was hit by a pitch. Both moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Gavin Neal delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-0. In addition to Marrow's two hits, Adam Rickey was 1-for-2 with a run and a stolen base. Neal was 1-for-1 with two RBI. Blaine Nunnally was 1-for-3 with a double. Whitaker was 1-for-2 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday when they travel to New Castle to begin the final two-game HHC series of the season.
