In 58 years, the New Palestine Dragons have had a number of big wins over their rivals, but never quite like what they had Friday night. The Dragons scored four touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and rolled to a 71-0 victory over Mt. Vernon Friday at Kelso Stadium. With the victory, the Class 4A No. 1 Dragons retained the Boundary Rail for the fourth straight year and the 18th time in 21 seasons and won their 28th straight Hoosier Heritage Conference game. The margin of victory was the largest in the series, as was the Dragons' point total, as NP improved to 42-24-1 all-time against the Marauders. The Dragons scored three touchdowns in the game's first first five minutes, led 30-0 after a quarter and extended it to 58-0 at halftime. They needed eight plays to score on the first drive - which was capped with a 32-yard touchdown run by Caden Jacobia - and never had a drive longer than six plays the rest of the game. NP scored on 10 of its 13 offensive possessions - with two of the three empty possessions being the final possessions of each half. For the second straight game, the Dragons did not punt. The Dragons' starters played a quarter and a half before yielding to the second unit, which helped preserve the Dragons' second shutout of the year. The Dragons got the snowball going quickly. After Jacobia's touchdown, Sam Hirschy hit MV's quarterback on the Marauders' second snap of the game. Garrett Ranes picked off the errant pass and ran it in 15 yards for a touchdown. The Dragons then forced back-to-back three-and-outs and scored quickly each time. Jacobia broke a 78-yard run on the first play of the Dragons' second possession for a score to extend the lead to 21-0. On the third, after a short punt it took the Dragons three plays to go 29 yards, capped with a 3-yard run by Jacob Davis to make it a 27-0 game. A 55-yard pass to Cameron Rollyson set up Evan Walker for a 36-yard field goal late in the first quarter to put NP up 30-0. Things didn't get any better for MV in the second half. Ranes blocked a punt, and Jacobia caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Davis on the next play. Two long punt returns by Rollyson set NP up inside the 30 yard line on the next two possessions, both of which ended in TD passes to Mason Oglesby. Rudy Hubbard's 31-yard run gave NP a 58-0 lead in the late stages of the second quarter. In the third quarter, Kade Stephens broke a 77-yard touchdown on the Dragons' first offensive snap. Logan Parks added a 5-yard fourth-quarter TD run. The Red Rage forced two turnovers, as Bryan Caldwell had a second-half interception. NP held the Marauders to negative-10 rushing yards and 54 total yards. The Dragons had 526 total yards, including 382 on the ground. Jacobia had 160 total yards and three touchdowns on six touches, including 125 on the ground and 35 through the air. Stephens ran for 89 yards and Ryder Gardner 80. Parks ran for 39 yards and Hubbard 33. Davis completed 8-of-13 passes for 138 yards, with Oglesby catching four for 41 yards. The Red Rage forced nine negative-yardage plays on 19 Mt. Vernon running plays. The game marked the first 70-point game for the Dragons since a 78-0 win over Anderson in the 2018 sectional. It was the first 50-point half since tallying 52 against Delta in 2021. It was the first negative-yardage rushing game for an opponent since 2023. Week 4: New Palestine 71, Mt.
