Sadey Hughbanks pitched six scoreless innings Wednesday, leading the New Palestine softball team to a 3-0 shutout at Fishers. Hughbanks scattered eight hits and struck out two Tigers. Courtney Study earned the save with a hitless, scoreless seventh, striking out one. Sydney Oliver led the Dragons' 10-hit attack, going 3-for-3. Her two-out, two-run single in the first gave the Dragons all the offense they needed. Oliver's single was the Dragons' fourth hit of the inning, and it plated Paige Ernstes and Alyssa Mumaw, who singled and reached on a fielder's choice. In the second, the Dragons loaded the bases on a walk to Maddie Engle, an error and a single by Aglaia Rudd. Blum plated Engle with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-0. Fishers was able to escape the inning without further damage with a groundout and a flyout. Hughbanks pitched around two baserunners in the third and sixth innings, but was able to escape each. Fishers loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Study was able to induce a strikeout and a flyout to end the game. In addition to Oliver's 3-3 game, Rudd was 2-for-4 and Engle 2-for-3 with a run. Mumaw and Ernstes were both 1-for-4 with a run. Reese Rosenbaum was also 1-for-4. The Dragons are now 15-4 on the season after their fourth straight victory. They next play Thursday at Pendleton Heights in a key Hoosier Heritage Conference matchup.
