The New Palestine baseball team used a stellar pitching performance from Blaine Nunnally and some timely late offense Tuesday to pull away to an 8-1 victory over host Pendleton Heights. The victory improved the Dragons' record to 14-7 and 7-4 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The two teams meet again Wednesday evening at NPHS with a 6 p.m. first pitch. Nunnally pitched a complete-game victory, striking out 11 in seven innings. He allowed four hits and no earned runs. The Dragons jumped ahead in the second when Ben Hirschy's two-out single plated Jacob Morris, who led off with a single. They added two more runs in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs on a trio of walks. Wes Stiller then lined a two-run single to right to extend the lead to 3-0. In the sixth, Nunnally and Ben Morwick led off with walks. Nunnally moved to third on a stolen base and a throwing error and scored on Stiller's sacrifice fly. Morris then reached on an error, plating another run to make the lead 5-0. PH scored in the bottom of the frame, but the Dragons answered with three in the seventh. Brayden Marrow led off with a walk, moved to second on an errant pickoff throw and then scored on Nolan Cox's single to right. A single by Henry Thorpe and a walk to Michael Thorpe loaded the bases. Nunnally and Morwick each drove in runs with groundouts. Stiller led the Dragons' eight-hit attack, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Hirschy was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Cox was 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI. Gavin Neal was 1-for-2 with a run. Henry Thorpe was 1-for-1 with a run. Morwick was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBO. Morris was 1-for-4 with a run.
