Baseball streak snapped at Connersville

The New Palestine baseball team's eight-game win streak was snapped Friday with a 7-3 loss at Connersville. The Dragons built leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but Connersville scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. The Dragons scored their first two runs in the third as Blaine Nunnally doubled. With two outs, Wes Stiller walked. With runners on first and third, the two runners executed a double-steal, with Nunnally scoring. Jacob Morris singled Stiller home. Connersville scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a walk and two singles, but the Dragons responded with a run in the third. Wyatt Mathies led off with a single and scored on an error. The Dragons had an opportunity to add more, with two in scoring position and none out, but a strikeout, popout and groundout ended the threat. Connersville then scored six runs in the bottom of the frame on a hit batter, a walk, three singles and two errors. The Dragons left two runners on in both the fifth and seventh as they looked to rally. The Dragons outhit Connersville 7-6. Adam Rickey led the Dragons' offense, going 2-for-4. Nunnally was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Stiller was 1-for-2 with a run. Morris was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mathies was 1-for-4 with a run. Jackson Kamp was 1-for-3. The Dragons are now 13-6. They next play Monday at home against Whiteland.
