The New Palestine softball team built two four-run leads, but succumbed to a three-run rally in the seventh Thursday in a 9-7 loss to Greenfield-Central. The Dragons moved to 11-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the first after two walks and an error. They extended it to 4-0 in the third when Allie Blum singled, Alyssa Mumaw was hit by a pitch and Paige Ernstes singled in both runners. Reese Rosenbaum followed with a run-scoring double. G-C hit a homer and scored three runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3, but the Dragons quickly answered. Jersi Gross led off with a walk, followed by Sydney Oliver's single. Blum drove in a run with a double, followed by Mumaw's two-run single to restore a four-run lead at 7-3. G-C hit two homers in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-6. In the seventh, the Cougars also hit two homers to re-take the lead, then retired three straight Dragons with the tying run at the plate. Blum led the Dragons' seven-hit attack, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Rosenbaum was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mumaw and Ernstes were each 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Oliver was 1-for-3 with a run. The Dragons are next in action Friday at home against Franklin, with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.
