Track teams take five individual county titles

The New Palestine track and field teams won five individual county titles Wednesday in the Hancock County meet at Mt. Vernon. The Dragons girls finished second in the four-team event, tallying 77 points. Mt. Vernon won with 89. Greenfield-Central had 63 and Eastern Hancock 15. The Dragons boys finished third with 33 points. Mt. Vernon won with 112, Greenfield-Central had 88 and Eastern Hancock 11. Rylee Hurst won two titles. She won the 400 in 1:01.73 and teamed with Olivia Frank, Abby Journay and Courtney Study to win the 4x400 relay in 4:13.66. Quin Lumbley and Sydney Miller were 1-2 in shot put, with Lumbley posting a distance of 41-8 and Miller 37-6. Miller won the discus title with a throw of 128-0. Finishing second were Hurst in the 100, Study in the 800 and 1600, Journay in the 200 and Rebecca Johnson in pole vault. For the Dragons boys, Sage Halter was the county champion in the pole vault, clearing 14-0. The Dragons are next in action next week in the Hoosier Heritage Conference meets at Mt. Vernon. The girls will compete Tuesday, while the boys compete Thursday.
