The New Palestine baseball team extended its winning streak to six Friday with a 7-5 road victory at East Central. The Dragons broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning to earn the victory. Blaine Nunnally and Ben Morwick led off the frame with singles, putting runners on the corners. A wild pitch brought Nunnally home with the winning run. Chase Ankney then plated Morwick with a sacrifice fly to provide a key insurance run. Ankney pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory. After a walk and two hits, he induced a popout and then struck out the last hitter. Ankney allowed two hits and struck out three in three scoreless innings. East Central led 2-0 after one, but Ben Hirschy and Jacob Morris led off the second with singles. After a bunt moved them into scoring position, Wyatt Mathies brought home a run with a groundout and another run came home on a passed ball. The Dragons took a 5-2 lead in the third, as Wes Stiller blasted a three-run homer to center, bringing home Nunnally and Morwick, who singled ahead of him. East Central tied the game in the bottom of the third on two walks, two singles and a hit batter to plate three runs. The Dragons outhit the Trojans 9-6. Morris led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a run. Nunnally and Morwick were both 2-for-4 with two runs. Stiller was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and Hirschy was 1-for-3 with a run. The game was originally scheduled to be played at NPHS, but inclement weather in Central Indiana forced a venue change. The Dragons are next in action Monday at Warren Central.
