New Palestine High School athletics has named Andrew Frey as its head wrestling coach. Frey takes over as the program's leader after six seasons on staff as an assistant coach to Scot Dawson and Alex Johns. In that time, he has coached three state qualifiers - all of whom placed at the State Finals - and 37 Academic All-State student-athletes. Frey is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis, where he was a four-year member of the Greyhounds' wrestling team. He takes over with the goal of providing the opportunities for student-athletes to seek and achieve their athletic, academic and personal potential. Other goals are to develop the core values of humility, accountability, self-respect, leadership, citizenship, discipline, sportsmanship and integrity, to foster school unity, school spirit and pride in our NPHS athletic teams, and to integrate the community, youth and middle school programs into the high school wrestling program. "We are excited to have Coach Frey directing our wrestling program," NPHS athletic director Al Cooper said. "He has been an incredible mentor and clinician for our wrestlers during the last six seasons as our top assistant wrestling coach. He is a high-character and high-energy leader and someone we trust to push our wrestlers toward championship success." Frey is a business teacher at NPHS. He lives in New Palestine with his wife, Issy, an NPHS graduate.
