CC teams finish 5th at MV

The New Palestine cross country teams both finished fifth at Saturday's Mt. Vernon Invitational. The Dragons girls tallied 95 places to finish fifth of eight teams, with Edgewood (72), Bloomington North (87) and Whiteland (89) finishing in the top three. The Dragons were two places back of fourth-place Cathedral and one ahead of fifth-place Greenfield-Central. Hailey Pardieck finished fourth in 19:04.76. Adi Smith was 11th (20:00.34), Abby Journay 17th (20:18.11), Elena Dugherty 22nd (20:33.40) and Brynn Richey 45th (21:57.37). The Dragons boys were fifth of nine teams with 139 places. Mt. Vernon (67), Whilteland (69) and Bloomington South (82) took the top three spots. Mike Bauer finished seventh to lead the Dragons in 16:39.04. Carson Cooper was 17th (17:19.71), Gabe Silvey 39th (18:12.87), Hayden Flanagan 42nd (18:17.84) and Micah Jones 53rd (18:41.35). The Hancock County meet was scored separately, and the Dragons girls finished second to Greenfield-Central, tallying 36 places to the Cougars' 30. Mt. Vernon (60) was third. Pardieck, Smith, Journay and Daugherty all were All-County. The Dragons boys finished third with 63 places, behind MV (31) and G-C (38). Bauer and Cooper were All-County. Bauer and Pardieck were both the county runners-up. The Dragons are next in action Sept. 6 in the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University.
