Allie Blum's two-run homer in the first inning set the tone and the New Palestine softball team never let up Wednesday in a 10-0 five-inning victory over No. 1 Center Grove. Alyssa Mumaw had a big game, going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Her bases-loaded single ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, added two more runs in the second, and scored twice more in each the fourth and fifth innings. After Aglaia Rudd drew a walk to lead off the game, Blum hit the second pitch she saw over the centerfield fence for a homer. The Dragons continued to add on, as Mumaw doubled, Paige Ernstes reached on an error, plating Mumaw. Reese Rosenbaum's single sent home a fourth run. In the second, Sydney Oliver walked and Rudd reached on an error, leading to runs on a single by Mumaw and a sacrifice fly by Ernstes. In the fourth, Oliver again led off with a walk. With two outs, Mumaw singled Oliver home and then scored on Ernstes' infield hit. In the fifth, Maddie Engle led off with a single. With two outs, Oliver walked and Rudd singled to plate Engle. After another walk to Blum loaded the bases, Mumaw laced a single to right to end the game. Courtney Study pitched five scoreless innings, allowing five hits, no walks and striking out one. At the plate, in addition to Mumaw's 4-4 day, each of the top six hitters in the Dragons' order had a hit. Rudd was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Blum was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.
