Michael Thorpe pitched a strong game Wednesday, striking out nine for a complete-game victory, leading the Dragons baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Greenfield-Central. The Dragons swept the two-game series to improve to 10-5 and 4-4 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The Dragons have won five straight games. Thorpe scattered six hits and allowed one walk in the victory. Offensively, the Dragons made the most of their chances. After surrendering a run in the second, they tied the game in the first. Thorpe pitched out of a two-on, two-out situation in the top of the inning. Blaine Nunnally singled with one out and beat the throw to second on Ben Morwick's grounder to short. He then scored on an error to tie the game. In the fifth, the Cougars again put two runners on, but Thorpe got a punchout to end the frame. In the bottom of the frame, the Dragons played small ball to take the lead. Nick Deering led off with a walk, moved to second on Nunnally's sacrifice and scored on Morwick's one-out single. Thorpe retired the Cougars in order in the sixth and pitched around a two-out single in the seventh. The Dragons had four hits - singles by Nunnally, Morwick, Wyatt Matheis and a double by Adam Rickey. The Dragons are next in action Friday at home against East Central.
