Girls tennis defeats Greenfield-Central

Fresh off its Hancock County championship, the New Palestine girls tennis team downed Greenfield-Central 4-1 Tuesday to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Dragons also improved to 3-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with the road win. The Dragons swept three straight-set matches at singles. Olivia Hasenkamp won 6-3, 6-1, while Kaitlyn Mitchell won 6-1, 6-1 and Mia Knoop posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory. At doubles, Bethany Blachly/Josephine Harvey won 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. Alyssa Kauchak/Maddy Potter dropped a tight three-set match 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. The Dragons JV won 8-3, with Courtney Johnson, Maizy Haynes, Tori Pieratt, Emily Appleby/Amelia Rojowski, Amelia Schneider/Kenzie Kleiman, Alyssa Appleby/Ellie Armstrong, Sophie Crickmore/Amaya Kennard and Lauren Hulet/Barb Palau all winning. The Dragons are next in action Wednesday at home against Lawrence Central.
