Volleyball wins Southport Invitational

The New Palestine volleyball team brought home its first trophy of the year Saturday, winning the Southport Invitational title. The Dragons opened the day with a 25-11, 25-13 victory over Whiteland. Caylee Brown had a team-high nine kills. Natalie Sevier had seven kills, nine digs and four aces. Cara Steele added five kills and two digs. Samantha Gooding had 23 assists. Azure Flagle tallied 12 digs, Kennedy Armstrong eight and Adelynn Crispin six. Crispin also had two kills. Hayden Ramsey had three kills and three digs, and Elena Cook tallied three kills. In the second match, the Dragons beat Scecina 25-13, 25-9. Brown had six kills, Ramsey added six kills, two blocks and an ace. Steele had five kills. Sevier tallied three kills and three digs. Gooding had 16 assists and four digs. Flagle had six digs, Cook two blocks and Armstrong four aces. In the championship match, the Dragons dispatched East Central 25-15, 25-20. Brown had nine kills. Sevier added six kills, four digs and two aces. Steele had six kills. Gooding tallied 22 assists and an ace. Flagle had 13 digs. Ramsey had five digs, two kills and a block. Crispin had three digs. The Dragons are now 5-1 on the season. They next play Tuesday at Hamilton Heights. The Dragons' JV also beat Whiteland, Guerin Catholic and East Central to win the junior varsity title.
