Track teams sweep Arabians on Senior Night

The New Palestine boys track and field team rallied to dominate the final events to beat Pendleton Heights 68-64 Thursday, while the girls won a 102-30 decision over the Arabians in a dual meet at Kelso Stadium. Trailing 63-46, the Dragons boys needed to sweep the last three events and did. Isaiah Thacker won the 200 meters, Jake Collins the 3200 and Brendan Tanksley, Connor Lapenta, Sage Halter and Thacker won the 4x400 relay. Halter also won the pole vault. Thacker won the 100 meters. The team of Tanksley, Lapenta, Isaac Poetz and Cody Crawmer won the 4x800 relay. James O'Dell, Eian Roudebush, Halter and Thacker won the 4x100 relay, with the three winning relay teams being comprised entirely of seniors. The Dragons girls won 14 of the 16 events to win easily. Taylor Burke was a double-winner in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Abby Journay was also a double-winner in the 200 and high jump. Other winners were Rylee Hurst in the 100, Alexis Baynes in the 800, Tylar Whitaker in the 1600, Cami Massari in the 3200, Rebecca Johnson in pole vault, Alaina Doran in long jump, Quin Lumbley in shot put and Sydney Miller in discus. Hurst, Taylor Burke, Olivia Frank and Journay won the 4x100 relay. Hurst, Frank, Whitaker and Journay won the 4x400 relay. The Dragons are next in action April 28 at the Zionsville Invitational.
