Tennis sweeps Yorktown

The New Palestine tennis team won five straight-set matches Thursday to beat Yorktown 5-0. The Dragons improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play. Olivia Hasenkamp won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Kaitlyn Mitchell won the evening's closest contest, a 6-2, 7-6(6) victory. Courtney Johnson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. At doubles, Bethany Blachly/Josephine Harvey and Alyssa Kauchak/Maddy Potter both won 6-1, 6-0. The Dragons are next in action Friday in the county meet at Mt. Vernon. The Dragons won the JV matches 11-1. Mia Knoop, Maizy Haynes, Sophie Munson and Sophie Crickmore all won at singles. At doubles, Emily Appleby/Amelia Rojowski, Amelia Schneider/Kenzie Kleiman, Alyssa Appleby/Ellie Armstrong, Tori Pieratt/Amaya Kennard, Lauryn Hulet/Barb Palau, Rachel Wright/Megan Ramsey and Audrey Inskeep/Mya Faubion all won.
