Boys volleyball wins tight three-set match over Lutheran

The New Palestine boys volleyball team won a tight 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 match over Lutheran Wednesday at NPHS. The Dragons and Saints played two back-and-forth sets. With the first set tied 23-23, the Dragons were able to win the last two points to clinch the set. In the second set, the Dragons took a lead at 24-22 before Lutheran was able to stave off set point. But the Dragons were able to finish the match with a kill by Jake Cwikla on set point. The Dragons took command late in the third set after trailing 17-16, with Cwikla again providing the match-ending kill. Jake Cwikla led the Dragons' attack with 10 kills and two blocks. Will Hahn added four kills. Eli Greene had three blocks and three aces. Eli Martin had 12 digs, while Aaron Smith added eight. Kameron Engle had 20 assists. The Dragons improved to 7-9 on the season with the victory. The Dragons' JV also won in three sets. The Dragons are next in action Monday at home against Shelbyville.
