Track splits with Lawrence Central

The New Palestine girls track team posted an emphatic 84.3-44.7 victory Tuesday at Lawrence Central. The Dragons boys fell 74.5-50.5. The Dragons girls won nine individual events - from nine different athletes - and two relays. Individual winners were Rylee Hurst in the 400, Tylar Whitaker in the 800, Cami Massari in the 1600, Evelyn Kell in the 3200, Taylor Burke in the 300 hurdles, Sydney Miller in discus, Quin Lumbley in shot put, Rebecca Johnson in pole vault and Abby Journay in high jump. Hurst, Olivia Frank, Whitaker and Journay won the 4x400. Alexis Baynes, Brooke Tanksley, Katie Kelley and Whitaker won the 4x800 relay. The Dragons boys won four individual events. Jake Cooper won both the 800 and 1600. Isaac Poetz won the 3200, while Sage Halter took the pole vault. Charlie Rigsbee, Gavin Smith, Brendan Tanksley and Connor Lapenta won the 4x800 relay. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at home against Pendleton Heights.
