The New Palestine baseball team succumbed to a seventh-inning rally Tuesday in a 5-2 loss to Mt. Vernon. The Dragons led 2-0 through five innings, but allowed four unearned runs in the final frame. The Dragons took a lead in the third when Adam Rickey led off with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. After stranding two runners in the fourth, the Dragons cashed in on a two-out rally in the fifth. Wes Stiller tripled to center and scored on a wild pitch to put the Dragons up 2-0. MV scored on a triple and an RBI groundout in the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1. The Marauders took advantage of a single, an error, an RBI groundout, two walks and a bases-clearing double with two outs to take the lead against the Dragons' bullpen. Blaine Nunnally pitched six strong innings for the Dragons, allowing one earned run and two hits, striking out six. The Dragon allowed four hits total in the contest. Rickey, Stiller and Jackson Kamp had the Dragons' three hits. The Dragons are now 5-4 and 2-3 in conference play. The same two teams face off Wednesday at Mt. Vernon.
