Golf fifth at Lapel Invitational

The New Palestine girls golf team had a strong day Saturday at the Lapel Invitational, finishing fifth out of 20 teams -and posting the fourth-best score among varsity squads. The Dragons shot 351 in the annual tournament at Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson. Lauren Deering led the Dragons with a 78, tying for 16th overall. Katie Kelley added an 81, while Matti Tiede-White shot 95 and Tessa Mohr a career-best 97. Carlee Poorbaugh's 109 was the Dragons' fifth score. Noblesville won the tournament with a 287, while Hamilton Southeastern shot 299 to finish second. Lapel (309) and the Noblesville JV (341) were third and fourth. The Dragons finished ahead of Tipton (352), NorthWood (354), Fishers (355), Mt. Vernon (358), Cathedral (371) and 10 other teams. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Old Oakland against Lawrence Central and Southport.
