Aglaia Rudd hit two homers and Courtney Study had a strong night in the circle Friday, leading the New Palestine softball team to a 7-1 home victory over Carmel. Study scattered five hits and struck out four in a complete-game victory. She allowed one earned run. Offensively, the Dragons got going on Rudd's first homer of the game, a solo shot in the first. Blum added two more in the third with a two-run blast to left. Jersi Gross was along for the ride, having hit a one-out single. Rudd then followed with a solo blast to give the Dragons a 4-0 lead. The Dragons added three more runs in the sixth on a one-out double by Paige Ernstes. Sydney Hughbanks reached on a fielder's choice to put two runners on. Reese Rosenbaum then hit a two-run double, followed by a run-scoring single by Blum. Carmel's lone run came in the seventh. Blum led the 10-hit day, going 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI. Rudd was 2-for-3 with the two solo homers and a walk. Ernstes was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Gross was 1-for-4 with a run. Rosenbaum was 1-for-1 with two RBI. Alyssa Mumaw was 1-for-3. The Dragons (5-2) next play Monday at Westfield.
