Golf opens season at Fall State Preview

The New Palestine girls golf team opened the season Monday at the Fall State Preview, in a field of last year's state finalists at the State Finals course. Lauren Deering finished 15th overall in an 86-player field, carding an 81, to lead the Dragons. She had six pars on each nine, and had a consistent 41-40 round. Katie Kelley shot 95. Tessa Mohr added a 121 and Matti Tiede-White shot 126. Carlee Poorbaugh's 132 was the fifth score. The Dragons shot 423 as a team and finished 16th in the field. They are back in action Tuesday at Hawk's Tail against Franklin Central and Greenfield-Central. Also Monday, the Dragons' JV beat Greenwood 216-255. Kalle Jones was medalist with a 47, Jozlynn Hart shot 55, Haidyn Lavish 56 and Elise Weimer 58.
