Girls track sweeps Greenwood, Perry Meridian; boys tie Woodmen

The New Palestine track and field teams competed Thursday in their first meet at Kelso Stadium. The Dragons girls scored 92.5 points to beat Greenwood (62) and Perry Meridian (12.5). The Dragons boys tied Greenwood 80-80, with PM scoring six points. Abby Journay won three events for the Dragons girls - the 100, 200 and high jump. Taylor Burke won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Quin Lumbley won the shot put and Sydney Miller the discus. The Dragons also won two of the three relays, with Reagan Seal, Olivia Frank, Alaina Doran and Journay winning the 4x100. The Dragons went 1-2 in the 4x400, with Anne Bauer, McKenzie Hacker, Courtney Study, Shaylee Frank, Olivia Frank, Journay, Tylar Whitaker and Rylee Hurst taking the top two spots. James O'Dell won two events for the Dragons boys - the 300 hurdles and the long jump. Isaiah Thacker won the 200, Jake Cooper the 3200, Paxton Holmes the 110 hurdles and Sage Halter the pole vault. Cooper, Gavin Smith, Danny Davis and Cody Crawmer won the 4x800 relay. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday at Lawrence Central.
