The New Palestine baseball team had a late rally fall short Tuesday in a 9-6 loss to Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Yorktown. The Dragons are now 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in HHC play. The Dragons trailed 9-0 after Yorktown plated five runs in the top of the sixth, then rallied. Jackson Kamp's triple plated Blaine Nunnally in the bottom of the sixth. Kamp then scored on Jacob Morris' groundout. Ben Hirschy was hit by a pitch and scored on Michael Thorpe's two-out double to plate a third run. In the seventh, the Dragons loaded the bases as Nick Deering was hit by a pitch, Gavin Neal singled and Kamp walked. Hirschy then hit a bases-clearing double to cut the deficit to 9-6, but a strikeout ended the threat and the game. Yorktown took a 2-0 lead in the first and added two runs in the third to take an early lead. Each team had nine hits. Five of the Dragons' hits were for extra bases. Blaine Nunnally was 2-for-4 with two runs and a double. Michael Thorpe was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Kamp was 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Nolan Cox was 1-for-3 with a double. Hirschy was 1-for-1 with a double, a run and three RBI. Morris was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Neal was 1-for-2. Four Dragons pitched, allowing eight earned runs and nine hits over seven innings. The Dragons and Tigers conclude their home-and-home series Wednesday at Yorktown.
