Boys volleyball wins second straight

The New Palestine boys volleyball team won a back-and-forth 29-27, 16-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-11 decision Tuesday over Martinsville. The victory was the first five-set match in program history and improved the Dragons' record to 5-7, equaling their win total from the inaugural season in 2022. The Dragons trailed for much of the first set, but rallied from a 20-16 deficit to tie the set at 23. The Dragons had two set points and Martinsville one, but were finally able to finish off the set on Jake Cwikla's kill. After Martinsville won the second set, the Dragons seized control of the third set late to win 25-20. Martinsville won a back-and-forth fourth set to square the match. In the final set, Daysen Wood's serve gave the Dragons a 6-1 lead. Martinsville rallied to tie the match at 10-10 and 11-11 before the Dragons ripped off the final four points to clinch it. Will Hahn had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Cwikla led the Dragons with 14 kills. He also had three aces and eight digs. Wood and Jaxon Hinkle had seven kills each. Wood also had four aces, two blocks and six digs. Carter Hacker had six kills and two blocks. Eli Martin led the defense with 14 digs. Kameron Engle had 34 assists and eight digs. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Franklin Central. The Dragons JV also won in three sets, 24-25, 25-16, 15-7.
