Girls track competes at regional

The New Palestine girls track and field team competed in one of the most competitive regionals in the state Tuesday, finishing 16th out of 30 teams. The Dragons tallied 12 points. They did not have any automatic qualifiers for the State Finals, but have two fifth-place finishers who will be eligible for callbacks. Abby Journay was fifth in the 200 (25.35) and seventh in the high jump (5-2). Hailey Pardieck was fifth in the 3200 (11:00.20). Rylee Hurst was eighth in the long jump (16-10.5). Olivia Weaver, McKenzie Hacker, Margaret Barrett and Bri Journay were eighth in the 4x800 relay (10:01.08) to round out the Dragons' scoring events. Rylee Hurst was ninth in the 400. The Dragons' team of Cayanna Brown, Rylee Hurst, Bri Journay and Abby Journay was ninth in the 4x400 relay. Lillie Abernathy was 10th in shot put. Savannah Baird also competed in the pole vault.
