The New Palestine girls tennis team dropped a tight 3-2 decision to Mt. Vernon Friday in the sectional championship match. Bethany Blachly won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Kaitlyn Mitchell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles in their final high school matches. Arabella Deisher dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles. Both doubles teams fell in straight sets - as Maizy Haynes/Riley Watts fell 6-1, 6-3 and Alyssa Appleby/Elliott Graham lost 6-2, 6-0. Earlier Friday, the Dragons finished off a 4-1 semifinal victory over Eastern Hancock. Blachly (6-0, 6-1), Mitchell (6-0, 6-0), Haynes/Watts (6-0, 6-1) and Appleby/Graham (6-2, 6-0) all won in straight sets. Deisher dropped a 6-1, 7-5 match at No. 1. The Dragons finished the season with a 12-8 record.
