Boys track wins three sectional titles

Eli Wasson won two sectional titles and Quinn Crawmer one, leading the New Palestine boys track and field team to a fourth-place finish at Thursday's Greenfield-Central sectional. Wasson won the 100 and 200 meters, while Crawmer won the pole vault title. In the 100, Wasson ran 11.09 seconds to win by .02 seconds. He then ran 21.93 in the 200, breaking his own school record in the process. Crawmer cleared 13-6 on the pole vault. He won on a tiebreaker. The Dragons had four other individual and two relay regional qualifiers, with the top three advancing to next week's regional. Jake Cooper placed second in the 800 (2:00.58). Paxton Holmes was second in the 110 hurdles (15.13) and third in the 300 hurdles (39.90). Spears finished second in the high jump (6-0). The Dragons' 4x100 relay of Holmes, Wasson, Will Bardonner and Spears was third (42.74). The 4x800 relay of Gavin Smith, Mike Bauer, Charlie Rigsbee and Cooper finished third (8:15.73). The Dragons tallied 93 points to finish fourth. Franklin Central (161) won the sectional title over Warren Central (132), with Greenfield-Central (109) third. NP finished ahead of Roncalli (83), Beech Grove (12), Scecina (11), Christel House (8) and Lutheran (3). The regional will be May 29 at Lawrence Central.
