Baseball wins on Senior Night

The New Palestine baseball team honored its seniors Monday in style with an 11-1 victory over Scecina. The Dragons scored in five of their six at-bats in a six-inning mercy-rule victory. Jackson Kamp homered and drove in three runs, while the Dragons pounded 13 hits in the victory. Jesse Isaacs (4-0) earned the win on the mound, striking out 10 and allowing five hits over five innings. Connor Reneau struck out the side in the sixth to nail down the game. Scecina scored first, but the Dragons quickly answered. Jacob Morris was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch in the first. The Dragons did not score in the second, but broke the game open with a seven-run third. Reneau led off with a single and Rigg Mahurin followed by drawing a walk. Kamp cleaned the bases with a three-run blast to left, his team-leading fifth homer of the season. But the Dragons kept going, loading the bases on a single by Isaacs, a walk to Rylan Edwards and a base hit by Trase Quillen. Ryan Haines drove two runs in with a base hit, and Max Havel followed with another two-run single to put NP up 8-1. The Dragons added a run in the fourth when Kamp walked, and courtesy runner Eli Whiteside came home on Carsyn Baker's single. In the fifth, Max Havel singled and scored on an error. Rylan Edwards ended the game with an RBI double in the sixth, bringing home Kingston Hedges, who led off the inning with a walk. Kamp was 2-for-2 with a three-run homer. Quillen was 2-for-3 with a run. Havel was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Mahurin was 1-for-2 with a run and two walks. Isaacs was 1-for-3 with a run. Ethan Nunnally was 1-for-1. Edwards was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Baker was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Haines was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Reneau was 1-for-2 with a run, as the Dragons outhit the visitors 13-5. The Dragons are now 18-3 on the season. They next play Tuesday at New Castle.
