Track and field teams finish second in outdoor opener

The New Palestine track and field teams both finished second in Thursday's outdoor season opener at Shelbyville's McKeand Stadium. The Dragons boys tallied 67.5 points, finishing second to Greenfield-Central (79). Shelbyville tallied 20.5 points. The Dragons girls scored 66 points, second to G-C's 97. Shelbyville scored four. The Dragons boys won four events. The 110 hurdles swept the top four spots, with James O'Dell winning and Paxton Holmes, Hayden Taylor and Andrew Hahn finishing in the next three spots. Also winning were Chase Martin in the pole vault, Cody Crawmer in the 1600 and the 4x800 relay of Danny Davis, Brendan Tanksley, Charlie Rigsbee and Jake Cooper. The Dragons girls won five events. Abby Journay won the 200, Rylee Hurst the 400 and Cami Massari the 3200. Alaina Doran, Taylor Burke, Olivia Frank and Journay won the 4x100 relay. McKenzie Hacker, Brooke Tanksley, Massari and Alexis Baynes won the 4x00 relay. The Dragons are next in action Saturday at the Chatard Invitational.
