New Palestine High School

The New Palestine girls tennis team opened its season Thursday with a convincing 5-0 victory over New Castle. The Dragons won four of the five matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Olivia Hasenkamp posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Kaitlyn Mitchell followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 and Courtney Johnson swept her match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. At doubles, Bethany Blachly/Josephine Harvey won 6-1, 6-1, while Alyssa Kauchak/Emily Appleby won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The Dragons also won the JV match 2-0, with Maizy Haynes and Kenzie Kleiman/Amelia Schneider winning. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday at home against Triton Central.
