Girls track claims conference crown

The New Palestine girls track and field team won the Hoosier Heritage Conference championship Tuesday, winning their first title since 2022 and their fifth in the last eight years. The Dragons scored 119.5 points to beat Yorktown (102.5), Delta (102), Mt. Vernon (87) and four other teams. Abby Journay won the conference title in the 200, running a time of 25.46. She also repeated as the conference champion in the high jump (5-3). Lillie Abernathy was the shot put champion (34-10). The 4x400 relay of Bri Journay, Margaret Barrett, McKenzie Hacker and Cayanna Brown also won the title in 4:08.58. Finishing second were Rylee Hurst in the 400 and long jump and Hailey Pardieck in the 3200. Placing third were Abby Journay in the 100, Hailey Pardieck in the 1600, Olivia Weaver in the 800 and Savannah Baird in pole vault. The Dragons are next in action in the May 20 sectional at Greenfield-Central.
