Tennis falls in close conference match

The New Palestine girls tennis team dropped a close conference match to No. 16 Mt. Vernon Monday, falling 3-2 to the Marauders. Bethany Blachly won a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles, while Kaitlyn Mitchell won 7-6(1), 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Mitchell rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the first set and won 11 of the next 12 games and a tiebreaker. The Dragons doubles teams battled, but fell in straight sets. Maizy Haynes/Riley Watts lost 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1, while Alyssa Appleby/Elliott Graham fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Arabella Deisher dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles. The Dragons are now 9-4, having faced three consecutive ranked teams. They travel to Greensburg Tuesday.
