Tennis falls to two ranked squads

The New Palestine girls tennis team dropped two matches to ranked teams at Saturday's Franklin Invitational. The Dragons dropped their opening match 3-2 to No. 25 Franklin. No. 2 singles Bethany Blachly had an 0-6, 6-2, 10-1 victory, winning a super-tiebreaker in lieu of a third set. Kaitlyn Mitchell had the Dragons' other win at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2. Arabella Deisher fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Maizy Haynes/Riley Watts dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision, and Alyssa Appleby/Elliott Graham fell 6-4, 6-2 at doubles. The Dragons then fell 4-1 to No. 21 Terre Haute South. Mitchell was the Dragons' lone victory, winning 6-0, 6-1. Deisher fell 6-0, 6-0 and Blachly dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match. Haynes/Watts fell 6-1, 6-1, while Appleby/Graham fell 6-1, 6-3. The Dragons are now 8-3 on the season. They next play Monday at Mt. Vernon.
