Baseball drops 1-0 decision on road

The New Palestine baseball team got a third straight pitching performance from Holden Hughes Wednesday, but dropped a 1-0 decision at Delta. The Dragons and Eagles split the two-game series, with the home team winning each game. NP is now 7-3 in conference play and 14-3 overall, as its 10-game winning streak was snapped. Delta scored the game's only run in the fourth inning on a leadoff double, sacrifice and a throwing error. The Dragons threatened early. With two outs in the first, Jacob Morris and Jackson Kamp delivered back-to-back singles, but a flyout ended the inning. The Dragons again put two runners on base with two outs in the third on back-to-back walks, but a strikeout on a 3-2 pitch ended the threat. A leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position in the fourth, but again, the Dragons were unable to score. Morris led off the sixth with a single, but was also stranded. The Dragons had three hits - Morris was 2-for-2 with a walk and Kamp was 1-for-3. Hughes scattered eight hits, one run and three strikeouts over a complete-game loss. The Dragons are next in action Friday at Connersville.
