Wasson sets record as track splits with LC

Eli Wasson set a school record in the 200 meters Tuesday as the New Palestine track and field teams split with host Lawrence Central. The Dragons girls won 78-54. The boys dropped an 81-51 decision. Wasson ran the 200 meters in 22.33 seconds, setting the mark and winning the event. He broke Isaiah Thacker's three-year-old mark of 22.39. Other winners for the Dragons boys were Colton Spears in the 100 (11.55), Gavin Smith in the 1600 (4:52.52), Mike Bauer in the 3200 (10:34.01) and Quinn Crawmer in pole vault (14-0). Finishing second were Paxton Holmes in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Harrison Carr in the 1600, Charlie Rigsbee in the 400, Smith in the 800, Carson Cooper in the 3200 and Ryan Cain in pole vault. Winners for the Dragons girls were Hailey Pardieck in the 800 (2:28.41) and 1600 (5:18.78), Justice Tweedy in the 300 hurdles (51.96), Taylor Stone in the 3200 (13:31.53), Abby Journay in the high jump (5-2), Savannah Baird in pole vault (9-0), the 4x800 relay of Margaret Barrett, Olivia Weaver, McKenzie Hacker and Evelyn Kell (10:43.61) and the 4x400 relay of Abby Journay, Taylor Burke, Bri Journay and Rylee Hurst (4:12.16). Finishing second were Burke in the 100 hurdles, Evelyn Kell in the 1600, Caylee Brown in the 300 hurdles, Heidi Bloomer in the 3200, Hacker in the 800, Abby Journay in the 200, Lilly Madden in pole vault, Hurst in long jump, Lillie Abernathy in shot put and Cadyn Brown in discus. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Kelso Stadium against Pendleton Heights.
