The New Palestine baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Yorktown Wednesday. The Dragons fell to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play, as the two teams split their two-game series. The Tigers staged a sixth-inning rally to take the win with a pair of unearned runs. With the Dragons leading 2-1, a leadoff single and an error put two runners on. They were bunted into scoring position. A strikeout recorded the second out, but a two-run single on a 3-1 pitch gave the Tigers the lead. The Dragons then were set down in order in the seventh. The Dragons loaded the bases with one out in the first inning, but were unable to score. In the second, they did break through, as Jesse Isaacs drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on Rigg Mahurin's single. After a base hit by Gavin Neal, Jacob Morris delivered a line-drive RBI single to put the Dragons up 2-0. A walk loaded the gases, but a strikeout ended the threat. The Dragons continued to have chances. They left two runners on base in the third, and loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but a doubleplay ended that opportunity. Yorktown scored with a single, error and a Texas League single to cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth. NP would have two baserunners the rest of the game, one of which was erased via doubleplay. Morris allowed one earned run over 5 2/3 innings and five hits, striking out six. He also led a nine-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Mahurin was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Neal, Jackson Kamp, Kingston Hedges and Isaacs also had hits for the Dragons. The Dragons are next in action Friday at Danville.
