Baseball downs Warriors

The New Palestine baseball team downed Whiteland 4-3 Monday afternoon. The Dragons improved to 6-2 on the season with the win. Jesse Isaacs pitched six strong innings to earn the win, scattering seven hits and allowing three earned runs. He struck out two. Gavin Neal pitched a perfect seventh for his second save of the season. A two-run homer gave the Warriors an early lead in the first, The Dragons got a run back when Kingston Hedges doubled and scored on Liam Atkinson's sacrifice fly in the second. They took the lead in the third when Neal walked and moved to third on Jacob Morris' double. Jackson Kamp's sacrifice fly tied the game. Hedges followed with an infield hit to plate Morris and put the Dragons up 3-2. The Dragons extended the lead in the fourth when they loaded the bases on two walks sandwiched around an Ethan Nunnally single. Rigg Mahurin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Whiteland manufactured a run in the sixth, but could draw no closer. Hedges and Morris led the Dragons' five-hit attack, as each went 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Morris also had an RBI. Nunnally's fourth-inning single was the Dragons' other hit. The Dragons are next in action Tuesday against Mt. Vernon for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
