Holden Hughes allowed one hit over five innings Friday, leading the New Palestine baseball team to a 6-2 victory at Danville. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning due to weather. Hughes allowed a single to Danville's leadoff hitter, then held the Warriors hitless the rest of the way. That leadoff hit led to a first-inning run. The Warriors added a fifth-inning run without a hit on a hit batter, a walk and a throwing error. The Dragons never trailed, as they plated two runs in the top of the first when Rigg Mahurin doubled and scored on Jacob Morris' sacrifice fly. With two outs, Jackson Kamp was hit by a pitch and scored on Kingston Hedges' double. The Dragons added three more runs in the third. Neal led off with a single and scored on Morris' double. An RBI groundout by Hedges was followed by a double from Liam Atkinson, who scored on an error. With weather threatening, the Dragons made it 6-2 in the sixth as Mahurin singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on Neal's sacrifice fly. Shortly after, the game was called due to the weather. Hughes allowed one earned run, three walks and struck out eight in his one-hit performance. Four of the Dragons' eight hits went for extra bases. Mahurin was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Morris was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBI. Hedges was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Atkinson was 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Neal was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Carsyn Baker and Ethan Nunnally were both 1-for-3. The Dragons are now 5-2 on the season. They next play Monday at home against Whiteland.
