New Palestine High School

The New Palestine girls tennis team swept its season opener Friday, beating New Castle 5-0. Both of the Dragons' No. 1s had to battle out three-set victories. At No. 1 singles, Bethany Blachly dropped the first set, but came back to win a second-set tiebreaker and win 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. At No. 1 doubles, Maizy Haynes/Riley Watts won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Arabella Deisher won her match at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3, while Kaitlyn Mitchell won a 6-0, 6-0 contest at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 doubles, Alyssa Beller/Addison Ballard won 6-4, 6-2. The Dragons are back in action Tuesday at home against Triton Central.
