Boys swimmers advance to finals

The New Palestine boys swimming team advanced to the finals in every event out of Thursday's sectional preliminaries. The Dragons will compete for a sectional title at 1 p.m. Saturday at the NPHS natatorium. The diving begins at 9 a.m. The Dragons placed three swimmers in the finals in three events. Liam Fuller (6th), Chase Martin (7th) and Ian Erwin (8th) will compete in the 50 freestyle. In the 100 backstroke, Dawson Lynch was third Thursday, Jacob Myers seventh and Reese Cox eighth. In the 100 breaststroke, Aidan Kingery was second, Martin third and Blake Hurst fourth. The Dragons will have two finalists in three other events. Lynch was sixth and Cox eighth in the 200 IM. Myers was fourth and Liam Fuller eighth in the 100 butterfly. Ian Erwin was sixth and Dontae Thompson seventh in the 100 freestyle. James Watson was fourth in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 500 freestyle Thursday. All three relays swam in the top three Thursday. Lynch, Kingery, Fuller and Martin were second in the 200 medley relay. Martin, Erwin, Thompson and Fuller were second in the 200 free relay, while Watson, Erwin, Lynch and Thompson were third in the 400 free relay. The Dragons will also have multiple swimmers in the consolation heats Saturday. The winner from each race Saturday will advance to the State FInals, but all places 1-16 score. The top eight finishers in each event from Thursday's prelims swim in Saturday's finals. Those placing 9-16 will swim in consolation heats.
