Sadey Hughbanks pitched a five-inning no-hitter Thursday, leading the New Palestine softball team to a 10-0 victory over Triton Central. The Dragons are now 2-0, with two 10-0 victories shortened by the mercy rule. Hughbanks walked six and struck out 10 in the game. She has allowed one hit in 10 shutout innings this season. Offensively, Payton Dye led an eight-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Hughbanks was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Maddie Engle was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Katie Hirschy was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Callie Cromwell had the Dragons' other hit. The Dragons jumped ahead 1-0 in the first when Jersi Gross led off with a walk and scored on Dye's single. NP exploded for six runs in the third. Gross again led off with a walk and scored on Engle's triple. Engle then came home on a wild pitch. Hirschy walked and scored on Dye's double. A passed ball brought Dye home, and Hughbanks drove in Saydie Miller - who had walked - with a base hit. Catherine Trebley brought home another run with a sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Gross was again the tablesetter with a leadoff walk. She scored on Hirschy's double. Dye followed with an RBI single and scored on an error to put the Dragons in position to trigger the mercy rule. The Dragons are next in action at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brownsburg.
