Girls swim advances to finals in eight events

The New Palestine girls swimming and diving team had nine swimmers or relay teams advance to the sectional finals in eight events from Thursday's IHSAA sectional preliminaries. The finals will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the NPHS natatorium. The diving competition begins at 9 a.m. The top eight will swim in the finals, with the winner in each event moving on to the State Finals. Those placing 9-16 in the prelims will swim in Saturday's consolation races, delivering team points. The Dragons will have two in the finals in the 100 butterfly, where Sullie Leavell finished sixth and Chloe Siler eighth in Thursday's prelims. Siler will also swim in the finals of the 50 free, where she was fourth Thursday. Adrianna Huston will swim in the 100 and 200 free finals. She finished fifth in both events Thursday. Lillie Abernathy was fifth in the 100 breaststroke. The Dragons also advanced to Saturday's finals in all three relays. Leavell, Kyleigh Turner, Siler and Huston finished second in the 200 free relay. Katelyn Trimpe, Abernathy, Rachel Hamilton and Turner were fourth in the 200 medley relay. Leavell, Trimpe, Siler and Huston placed fifth in the 400 free relay.
